POETRY ● FICTION ● COMICS
OROBORO is a non-profit online literary journal, published bi-annually by Death Rattle, aimed at publishing and promoting poets, authors, and artists. We publish new work from both established and emerging writers. Before you submit, we encourage you to take a look at previous issues to get a feel for what we are looking for.
You can find our in-print collections for purchase here.
We look forward to reading your submission!
All $3 submission donations go directly towards covering the costs of keeping this site up for Oroboro. If the donation is prohibitive to your submitting to us, especially for those who are LGBTQIA+ or BIPOC, please reach out about a scholarship submission to deathrattlewriter@gmail.com

Our editing services are currently open! Send us work below for that extra personal feedback to really polish your poem packet before sending it out into the submission world.
We are volunteer un-paid editors reading hundreds of submissions monthly for our regular published issues of OROBORO. Charging here helps to offset that time, labor and expertise donated when reading general submissions.
We take the reading of and feedback towards yours work seriously and want to take the time to give you the best, most personalized feedback towards your work as we can!
There is opportunity for scholarship or discount with our editing pricing -- just email us at deathrattlewriter@gmail.com with how many poems you are looking to have feedback on and we can discuss!
IMPORTANT NOTE!! Both editing forms are for EDITING SERVICES only and are NOT a submission for PUBLICATION in our journal. They will not be considered for publication. If submitted in error, we of course can refund your editing fee.

5(ish) page submission limit. Again, we prefer more than one page of comics / multiple pieces submitted so we are more able to get a feel for your style and intention. If you don’t have more than one piece, giving us context for your comic submission and your work (and include links to other work if you can) in your cover letter would be greatly appreciated in reviewing your submission.
Submissions should include work in one image file, .jpeg, or pdf.
300 dpi minimum. No larger than 8.5 x 11 in: (there’s some artistic wiggle room with this one, just ask us!)
*ੈ♡⸝⸝🪐༘⋆ Death Rattle is looking for Erotica submissions for an IN-PERSON LIVE READING & ZINE RELEASE IN THE BOISE AREA details TBA! Fan Fiction Welcome! The Content: Fiction, fan fiction, prose, essay, and poetry. 2-3 poems, fiction/non fiction/prose 400-1200 words max.
You may use a pseudonym on our advertising if preferred; most of our past readers have used a pseudonym / performed in persona in-line with their fan-fic so you can expect that as a big part of the vibe for the evening! That’s not to say that soft and vulnerable work doesn’t do well by any means, we have had some wonderful writers read about more serious matters and it can be really powerful, but expect a crowd that is a bit rowdy! You also can ask someone else to read your piece for you if you yourself do not want to perform it and/or would like to remain anonymous to the work.
Content can be fan fiction, original content, auto-bio/true to life, etc. Past reading selections have featured trucks and dragons, aliens, Greek gods, monks, Transformers, Hulk Hogan, Shrek, BG3, Klingons Wuthering Heights and medieval knights alongside tinder dates and cringe meetups, sexcapades, and yearning sonnets. Show us the richness of your imagination & the depth of the heart ♡₊˚🎄✩ ₊˚❄️⊹♡‧₊˚
Work can/will be collected to be published in an in-print zine compilation EROTICA VOL. 3 to be released at the showcase.
Submissions due by Jan 8th!
Full Details TBA | Bookmark for Late Jan/Feb in Boise area. Stay Tuned!
for non-locals: We have accepted non-local work in the past but please note that locals will be prioritized as we will be making sure to include those who will be available to perform their work live the night of release.

We are un-paid editors reading hundreds of submissions monthly for our regular published issues of OROBORO. Charging here helps to offset that time, labor and expertise when reading general submissions. We try to keep our pricing affordable and accessible because we believe in up-and-coming writers, writers outside of a university setting, writers outside of a robust writing community deserve the same time and attention to their work as anyone inside more established writing resources. However; to be transparent about the time spent individually critiquing 8 pieces, we as editors are making $10-$15 an hour, which is to say, below industry standard. We take the reading of and feedback towards yours work seriously and want to take the time to give you the best, most personalized feedback towards your work as we can!
